Slot machines that dispense automobiles

Some car dealers will go to great lengths to put prospective customers in the driver's seat including the creation of giant vending machines, reports the Association of Mature American Citizens. The Web site,, recently reported that Singapore's Autobahn Motors built one that dispenses luxury pre-owned vehicles.

Autobahn's 15-story skyscraper has see-through slots for displaying up to 60 automobiles and "instantly" delivers cars to buyers, just like a coin-op dispenser delivers candy. It is not a new idea. Car dealer, Carvana, says it opened its five-story auto vending machine in Nashville in 2014.

2015 DMV Driver Handbook Now Available for the iPad

New interactive option to prepare for the knowledge test

State/Government News

Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announces the release of the 2015 Driver Handbook for the Apple iPad tablet. The book is available in English and Spanish, and can be downloaded free, through the iBooks application bookstore. Print publication copies of the 2015 California Driver Handbook are also available at DMV field offices, statewide.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the California DMV and this milestone is commemorated on the front cover of both, the electronic and print version of the 2015 California Driver Handbook. It is designed to help prepare new drivers to take the knowledge test that covers traffic laws and road signs. New and experienced drivers will also find this handbook a valuable resource for information about safe driving.

“We transformed our traditional driver handbook into a convenient and interactive way to study,” said DMV Director Jean Shiomoto. “The iBook version of the 2015 California Driver Handbook brings the learning experience to a whole new level—offering our customers educational materials to help them prepare for the driver license exam.”

The new features of the 2015 DMV iBook version offer a comprehensive overview of the rules of the road and include topics on how to acquire a new license or renew an existing license, a summary of standard road signs, and safe driving tips on how to properly share the road with other vehicles, mass transit, pedestrians, and cyclists.

The 2015 DMV iBook includes study material, complete with diagrams, photos, videos, and quizzes. Other useful tools include text highlighting, content search, a detailed glossary, and the ability to take electronic notes and share information through social media on Facebook or Twitter. You can read in horizontal or vertical view, as well as increase the text size.

This electronic version was created using DMV’s in-house information technology and website services team, which was instrumental in selecting the template, customizing the program, and designing a layout.

A demonstration video of the new handbook for the iPad is available on the DMV’s YouTube channel, where drivers can find lots of useful information to help hone their driving skills.

The 2015 California Driver Handbook iBook is available for download on a Mac or iPad, and with iTunes on a computer. California DMV handbooks are available on the DMV website in various languages in PDF format, viewable on any smartphone or tablet device.
