A Pre-Show Will Be Featured During the BET Experience at L.A. Live

LOS ANGELES –July 2, 2013 – Experience the 4th of July at the California African American Museum (CAAM) with live performances and a unique art workshop, followed by Exposition Park’s annual fireworks display. In celebration of America’s birthday, Target Sundays at CAAM has been moved to Thursday, July 4th for this special holiday event. The Museum galleries will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the outdoor live performances start at 6 p.m. for the July 4th program Gleaming at Twilight. CAAM will provide guests first priority for a seat on CAAM’s lawn to view Exposition Park’s annual fireworks display. CAAM will feature a number of performers who have graced CAAM’s stage during past Target Sundays. The July 4thprogram will be co-hosted by Jamaican born actor, Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter and the gifted vocalist, Nita Whitaker LaFontaine, who will sing the National Anthem. LaFontaine is a Hall of Fame “Star Search” Grand Champion winner, who has performed at The Freedom Awards honoring Oprah Winfrey, President Bill Clinton and the actress Ruby Dee. In addition, she has shared the stage with Barbara Streisand, Faith Hill, Céline Dion, Richard Marx, Stevie Wonder, and Yolanda Adams. Target Sundays’ live performances on the CAAM Plaza will feature vocalist CJ Emmons, jazz musician Ryan Cross, Broadway star Crystal Starr- Kingston and Latin performer Iliana Garcia and musicians. Vocalist Judith Hill, best known for her performances on this season of “The Voice” will also perform. Prior to the live program, artist and educator Teresa Tolliver will host an art workshop for all ages, which begins at 12pm. CAAM events are free and open to the public.
