Community Call To Action To Protest Racist GM Dealership In Victorville

Community Call To Action To Protest Racist GM Dealership In Victorville

VICTORVILLE, CA -On Friday, November 10, 2017, Victor Valley NAACP and National Action Network are calling for support from surrounding communities to join them in a peaceful protest in front of Rancho Motors Company, Inc., in the City of Victorville. According to Bill Thomas, President, Victor Valley NAACP, Branch 1082, “The purpose of this gathering is to protest Rancho Motor’s racist and predatory practices toward minority groups, specifically the African American Community.” The San Bernardino Sun reports that since February Rancho Motor Company has been embroiled in lawsuits alleging systemic bank and credit fraud and racial discrimination.

This 46-year old family owned business employees have come forward in deposition accusing the dealership of willfully engaging in a racist, sexist culture. On page 155 in the deposition, one Rancho Motor Company employee, Danny Braun, stated that Gerald Tillis, an African American employee was referred to as a “dumb nigger” that they should have never given him an opportunity.” Braun said, “They teased him (Tillis) about his family, about being African-American, about being from Adelanto, about eating chicken.” Braun is a retired San Bernardino County sheriff’s sergeant and he said that he complained to the company owner and president John Wilkins about the dealership’s business practices, racism and sexism.

The action I was able to read in the deposition is a throwback to Jim Crow and sharecropping, except, the only difference at Rancho Motors is that there is no sharing the goods with the customers who are getting ripped off with shady dealings and at the same time being talked about like calling black customers “niggers”. There is a scheduled protest on Veteran’s Day November 10, 2017 so I am encouraging all who want to celebrate Veterans, I believe this is a great way to give back. Veterans buy GM cars and I believe a large percentage of them are Black Veterans and Veterans of color.

The action by this dealership must serve as a kindling to say enough is enough to this corporation as a whole that we will not tolerate complicit behavior by way of silence. So far at press time and according to reports there has been no attempt from GM to resolve the issue. One employee, who is white, is being sued for trying to bring Rancho’s racist wrongs to the attention of those at Rancho Motors top level management. Christopher White, was outraged at what was happening at Rancho and he did something about it. He fought back and now he and Rene Williams are suing the dealership for discrimination and Williams is suing for being lured away from another car dealership, taking the job at Rancho only after working for a short period of time Williams was demeaned, cursed, being accused of thinking he had “black privileges” and ultimately, he was fired.

This is an opportunity to share in fighting for blatant injustice and discrimination just an hour drive to say…… “Justice at GM or No Purchase at GM!”
